TAKING TIME OUT TO THANK OUR LONG-SERVICE COLLEAGUES

Category Advice

While it's easy to get distracted by the never-ending 'to do' list that is property management, it is also important to take time out to acknowledge our most precious asset: our staff. This time, it was a luncheon in the 'French-inspired' courtyard of the classy HQ restaurant on Heritage Square, to thank our colleagues who have been with Steer for more than ten years.

We've chosen to share our financial manager's account of the occasion, which took place on Thursday, 14 November 2019:

"An enjoyable afternoon lunch at HQ Restaurant in the city centre to celebrate and acknowledge Steer & Co's long-standing employees and directors. Friendship that spans over 44 years since being welcomed into the "Steer Family", with three generations of directors present, is quite a remarkable feat.

With the company celebrating its 140th year we remembered some of our past directors. Incredibly, one of our ex directors, Beverley Hofmeyr is still involved in the company at age 83, John van der Spuy at 67 is still very much at the helm and some of us were employed when his daughter (another current director) Nina Vass, aged 37, was born!

We enjoyed lots of laughs and reminiscing when "kortbroek" van der Spuy, reminded us of his 'safari suit' days, a picture of which he still carries in his wallet. Mr Hofmeyr thought he was on safari and brought his straw hat along, which he lent to Pauline Masconi who thought she was starring in "Out of Africa" only to find out that it was actually his gardening hat....

Our recently retired Tannie Gerda also attended and from young to old, we are proud to be associated with Steer & Co and show that collectively, we are still a force to be reckoned with.

A true family business which has and will always be part of our lives. A spirit of happiness and a sense of humour keep us going at a company that has vision and is not afraid to give opportunities to those who show promise. We are privileged and honoured to have been invited to this lunch and enjoy an afternoon of fun.

Thank you Steer & Co!"
